About this test

What this test measures

In the United States, more than 2.5 million new STI cases are detected every year.¹ If you are at risk of developing a sexually transmitted infection, regular screening can help you stay proactive about your sexual health.

This test detects 9 common sexually transmitted infections: Chlamydia, Herpes (HSV-2), Gonorrhea, Hepatitis C, HIV, Mycoplasma, Syphilis, Trichomoniasis, Ureaplasma

Chlamydia
Chlamydia is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases. Many people that contract it, including 70% of women diagnosed, don’t experience any symptoms.² Left untreated, chlamydia can lead to complications like infertility and chronic pelvic or abdominal pain in women. Men may have pain when urinating and pain in the testicles. This STD can be treated with antibiotics.

Herpes (HSV-2)
Herpes is caused by the herpes simplex virus, which is categorized into two types: HSV-1 and HSV-2. In most cases, genital herpes is caused by HSV-2.

Gonorrhea
Gonorrhea is a common STD, especially among those around the ages of 15 to 25. It’s caused by a bacteria found in penile discharge or vaginal fluid and is typically treated with a single antibiotic injection. Gonorrhea can be mistaken for a vaginal or bladder infection and often has no symptoms.

Hepatitis C
Hepatitis C spreads through contact with infected blood, most often by sharing needles, syringes, or other devices to prepare and inject drugs. Hepatitis C can also be transmitted by sharing personal items such as, razors or toothbrushes, and occasionally during sex. The virus inflames the liver, and if untreated, can lead to significant liver damage or cancer. People with hepatitis C might not have symptoms for several months, or might have vague symptoms such as fever and fatigue. Hepatitis C is often treated with antiviral medication.

HIV
The human immunodeficiency virus weakens the body’s immune system and interferes with its ability to fight off bacteria, viruses, and illness. It’s most often transmitted through semen, vaginal fluids, or blood exposure. There is no cure for HIV but it can be controlled with antiretroviral therapy. If untreated, HIV can progress to AIDs.

Mycoplasma
Mycoplasma genitalium is a bacteria that can cause an STI. It lives in reproductive organs and can be spread through sexual intercourse if one partner is infected. Mycoplasma genitalium doesn’t always come with symptoms and people may be infected without knowing it. It can be treated with antibiotics.

Syphilis
Syphilis is spread by exposure to a syphilis sore, which can occur around the genitals or mouth. There are four stages of syphilis (primary, secondary, latent, and tertiary), each with unique symptoms. If untreated, syphilis can progress to damage the brain and internal organs. This STI can be treated with antibiotics.

Trichomoniasis
Also known as trich, trichomoniasis is a common STI caused by a parasite called Trichomonas vaginalis. Around 70% of people infected do not exhibit any symptoms. Trichomoniasis can be treated with antibiotics and is the most curable common STI.

Ureaplasma
A bacteria commonly found in urinary or genital tracts, ureaplasma can be passed through sexual contact. Many people don’t exhibit symptoms but infection may lead to inflammation in the urethra (urethritis) and has been linked to bacterial vaginosis, kidney stones, and pregnancy complications.

Who should take this test

If you are a woman who has reason to believe you've been exposed, an STD test can help you stay proactive about your sexual health. Your chances of contracting a sexually transmitted infection may be higher if you are:

You may also want to consider an STD test if you are experiencing common symptoms of sexually transmitted infections, which include:

  • Unusual discharge
  • Pain or itching
  • Lumps, rashes, or unusual growths

You must be age 18 or older to take this test. This test is intended only for people assigned female at birth. Due to state restrictions, this test is not available to residents of New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island.

What to know about sexually transmitted infections

Sexually transmitted infections are on the rise
More than 1 million STIs are diagnosed daily worldwide.³ Left untreated, some STIs can lead to serious health issues, like reproductive damage and even cancer. Four of the most common STIs (chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and trichomoniasis) are curable, and many others can be managed with medications.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate are the results?

The laboratories we partner with to process Cue tests are CLIA-certified and CAP-accredited, which means they meet the highest standards for pathology and laboratory medicine. Additionally, each of our test kits are assembled in FDA-registered manufacturing facilities.

How long does the testing process take?

In most cases, your results will be available 3 to 5 business days after the lab receives your sample. You’ll be notified once you can securely review your results in the Cue Health App. If your results are delayed, our customer service team will reach out to you.

Holidays may cause shipping and laboratory delays. These holidays include:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving
  • Friday after Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Day

Will my insurance cover the cost of the test?

Cue tests are not currently covered by insurance, but we are actively working with health insurance companies to get coverage for Cue Health solutions. However, many Cue Care tests are FSA/HSA eligible, which means that your health benefits may be able to cover Cue. We recommend connecting with your insurance provider directly to inquire more about their policies and your plan. We work hard to keep our pricing accessible, and in most cases, the price of a Cue Care test is similar to the out-of-pocket costs for testing in a clinical setting.

I ordered my kit. What should I do next?

Get started by downloading the Cue Health App. Please ensure you’ve installed the latest version (1.16 or newer). Follow step-by-step instructions within your app and sample collection kit to collect and mail in your sample. If you have trouble registering your test kit, please reach customer support from the Cue Health App. You may also contact support@cuehealth.com or 1 (833)-CUE-TEST.

How will I receive my results?

In most circumstances, your results will be ready within 3-5 business days of the lab receiving your sample. You’ll be notified once you can securely review your results in the Cue Health App. Your health data is sent confidentially, and complies with HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.

Health test results can vary from person to person. We recommend speaking with a healthcare provider if you want to better understand your test, or if you have unexpected or abnormal results. You may also receive additional information from our team via email within 24 hours. If your results are invalid or you want to repeat your test, please contact customer support at 1 (833) 283-8378 or email cuecaresupport@cue.me.

Will my package be shipped discreetly?

Your package will be delivered discreetly by Amazon, our delivery fulfillment partner. Your order will always arrive in an Amazon box with no test names or Cue Health-branded images. Cue Health will not appear anywhere on your package in normal circumstances; however, it may occasionally appear on your shipping label on rare occasions.

Are at-home test kits available in every state?

Due to state restrictions, Cue mail-in lab tests are not available to residents of New York. Additionally, the Colon Cancer Screening, the Women’s Sexual Health Panel, and the Men’s Sexual Health Panel is not available to residents of New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island. These restrictions do not apply to Cue’s COVID-19 test.

What support will I get with my results?

What your test means about your health varies from person to person. If you have questions or want to discuss your results, we recommend speaking with a healthcare provider. You can go to the Care tab in your App to chat with a provider and access 24/7 virtual care; however, you should speak to your doctor if you want to inquire about unexpected or concerning results. If you test positive for certain conditions with a Cue test, you can access treatment with Cue Care™ services at no extra cost. If you receive a prescription, you’ll just have to cover the cost of your medicine. Please check the Cue Health App or our Cue Care FAQs for more information on which conditions are treated.
